Not a true garlic but actually closely related to the leek, Elephant Garlic produces big bulbs and big cloves.

The flavour is sweeter and milder than traditional garlic. Basted with olive oil and then roasted in the oven, Elephant Garlic cloves make an unusual and creamy-textured vegetable!

We already know that our standard Elephant Garlic cloves regularly produce Jumbo-sized bulbs, but the size of many of the bulbs harvested from the most recent harvest is exceptional. In fact, when the bulbs are split, individual cloves are up to 3 times bigger than normal!

These extra large cloves will, in turn, grow on and produce MAMMOTH bulbs made up of Mammoth cloves. If you want an even bigger and better harvest in 2012, then choose and plant the extra large cloves!

Please note: All orders received in early autumn will be despatched for autumn planting this year. Late orders received after 30 November 2011 will be shipped in February next year.

I saw these growing in a National Trust garden and they were amazing. The ones I've planted are promising to be just as good.

Expensive but a real treat. Try cooking the huge cloves slowly in a covered pan with melted butter - my kids favourite! Also, remove the flower stems when produced and cook like asparagus. This improves the size of bulbs as well. Avoid high Nitrogen fertilisers after April - can cause rot.
