growing information

Sowing Outdoors

Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered shallow rows, and cover with a little soil. Keep soil moist as dry conditions impair germination.

Remember small sowings made every three weeks through the summer should ensure a continuous supply.

Growing on / thinning

Thin seedlings to about 10cm (4in) apart when large enough to handle.

Ensure remaining seedlings are still firm in the soil.

Aftercare

Water plants generously in dry weather.

a very pleasant alternative to rocket in a mixed leaf salad. germinates well and grows quickly, much more quickly than salad leaves. very pretty leaves, and great taste. I was harvesting it last autumn, from a late sowing, into november, much longer than the packet suggests would have got a five rating but that last year and this I have found that the red leaves grow more quickly and bigger.
