Sowing Outdoors

Sow seed in short, shallow, pre-watered rows. Lightly cover them with a little soil. Keep soil moist until seedlings emerge. Thin seedlings to around 2cm (1in) apart to allow development.

Transplanting

Transplant young plants to their final positions in late summer or early autumn. Allow 20cm (8in) between plants.

When they are around 15cm (6in) high, pinch out the growing tip to encourage bushy growth.

Special note

Wallflowers do not thrive is sown in trays of compost, then planted out to the garden. Best results are always achieved by sowing direct in the soil in 'nursery rows'. First year flowering perennials.
