Commonly known as Masterwort, the flowers are surrounded by long-lasting bracts. Astrantia flower heads look like pincushions hence the plants' other common name of Hattie's Pincushion.  Astrantia 'Claret' has crimson flowers that are produced in profusion above attractive lobed foliage.

Astrantia are perfect plants for moist, shady borders.

Plant the bare roots into weed free soil and water in.

Cut back spent stems in late autumn when flowering has finished and plants will re-emerge next spring
