Fascinating Twisted Stems are Loved by Flower Arrangers

Corylus Contorta otherwise known as 'Corkscrew Hazel' has curiously twisted and contorted branches which have bright green broadly ovate leaves in summer.

But the winter garden is when it really comes into its own – the twisted stems are fascinating when covered in frost. The pendant male yellow catkins are borne in late winter and early spring and are much loved by flower arrangers.
