Liquidamber styraciflua
This handsome species is grown primarily for its glossy maple-like leaves that in autumn takes on brilliant crimson, purple and claret hues. The colour is long-lasting and lingers for over a month on the tree itself, the leaves even look beautiful when on the ground once they have fallen! In older trees the bark is corky in texture and grey-green in colour.
