growing information

Sowing Indoors

Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in warmth 15-25C (60-75F), and keep moist.

Growing on / thinning

Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from bright sun. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings singly to 8cm (3in) pots of all purpose compost.

Hardening off / planting

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out when danger of frost has passed. Allow 30cm (12in) between plants if planting in the open.

Container plantings can be closer. The shoots may turn yellow when exposed to cooler conditions, but they soon recover.

Special note

Ideal for climbing. WARNING: Harmful if eaten
