growing information

Sowing Indoors

Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost, covering seeds with 1cm (1/2in) of compost. Place in warmth 15-20C (60-70F).

Sowing Outdoors

Sow seeds in pre-watered soil at a depth of 2cm (1in) in their flowering positions. Keep soil moist until seedlings emerge and water as required in dry spells.

Growing on / thinning

Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from bright sun. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost, or individually to small pots.

Hardening off / planting

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out to their flowering positions.

Special note

Nasturtiums do best in poor soils and without feeding. Flowers and foliage are edible, and good in salads.
