growing information

Sowing Indoors

Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in warmth 15-20C (60-70F), and keep moist.

Growing on / thinning

Transplant 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost. Alternatively, pot seedlings on individually to small pots of potting compost.

Hardening off / planting

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out when all danger of frost has passed. Allow 30cm (12in) between plants.

Special note

If you wish to grow on only the 'doubles', when seedlings have emerged place the tray in a cooler spot - 7-10C (45-50F).

When large enough to handle, select only the paler seedlings. These will be double flowered. Discard the darker seedlings, as these will be single flowered.
