The large flower heads are produced on strong, upright stems and are ideal for cutting as they are pollen-free.

growing information

Sowing Indoors

Sow individually in small pots of moist seed compost, lightly covering the seeds. Place in gentle warmth 15-20C (60-70F).

Sowing Outdoors

Sow seeds 2cm (1in) deep in pre-watered soil about 15cm (6in) apart in a row or in groups. Keep the soil moist until seedlings are well established. This out if seedlings appear to be overcrowded.

Hardening off / planting

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out to their flowering positions about 45cm (18in) apart from May onwards.

Special note

Sunflower seeds are edible and tasty in a wide range of dishes.
