growing information

Sowing Indoors

Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost.

Label your sowing using the pencil and the labels in the kit. Make a note of the sowing date in the grower's record.

Place in warmth 15-20c (60-70F), and keep moist.

Growing on / thinning

Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from bright sun. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost.

Gently lift them from the tray using the widger (the two pronged fork) and place them into holes in the compost made by the dibber (the pointed stick). Make a note of the date in the grower's record.

Hardening off / planting

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out when danger of frost has passed.

Allow 15cm (6in) between plants.

Again make a note of the date you plant them out.

Special note

Never eat seeds and always wash your hands after gardening.
