The Common Walnut is a large and slow-growing tree, it spreads very widely and form a round headed shaggy canopy when mature. The leaves of the Walnut are very aromatic when they are still young, they turn a rich gold yellow in the autumn. This Walnut produces delicious nuts in the autumn.

The walnut fruits are oval and about 4-5 centimetres across, the outer slightly soft coat called a husk is shiny and green, it then changes to a dark brown when becoming ripe. The fruits produce a large seed, the Walnut, it has beautiful white kernels when fresh.

The tree is deciduous with large pinnate leaves, they give off an acrid aroma when they are crushed. In the late spring to early summer inconspicuous flowers appear. This tree is an excellent specimen for a large garden or a park.
