The Native Cowslip Often Seen in Meadows, Open Fields and on Cliff Tops

Similar to the wild primrose, Cowslips prefer a more open, well drained site and are frequently seen in fields and meadows. The name actually comes from the Old English cuslyppe meaning "cow dung" where it was often found growing amongst the manure in cow pastures! It was used by herbalists as a diuretic and expectorant and in cooking can be eaten as a salad leaf. We just love the deep yellow flowers held in clusters on a single stem up to 20cm tall. An absolute must for any wildflower garden.

Height 20cm/8in.
