Allium Purple Sensation - Allium Bulbs Growing Chart
- Plant Outdoors
Once flowers have faded you can cut them but the spent Allium seedheads make lovely dried flowers. Alternatively let them stand in the border for the birds to feast on their seeds.
Our products are all grown with the utmost care and to high standards of quality. We regularly check our nursery stock to determine exactly when they will be at the optimum time for despatch.
We despatch our fresh, nursery-grown live plants (including vegetables, trees and flowers) when they are at a stage of growth ready for you, the customer, to plant on at home.
The delivery period shown on your order confirmation indicates when you can expect to receive your order and we will endeavour to despatch your plants in this period within 7-14 days
Allium Purple Sensation - Allium Bulbs
Allium 'Purple Sensation' has been given an RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) for its value as a brilliant garden plant. It is a highly popular hybrid of Allium aflatunense with large dense heads of star-shaped, deep purple-violet flowers that are loved by bees.
'Purple Sensation' definitely lives up to its name; it never fails to make a big impact in any border! They are also excellent cut flowers.
Alliums make spectacular container plants and 'Purple Sensation' looks extra special in formal schemes. Try combining them with formal hedging or topiary such as a 'mop-head' standard bay tree or clipped box balls for an ultra modern effect.
The allium leaves appear before the flowers and die away quite quickly leaving the stems and flowers standing tall.
Allium bulbs will come back every year without being lifted and stored.
Plant the bulbs in autumn at roughly twice their depth into free draining soil in a sunny position. If you garden on heavy soil add some grit to the planting hole to help drainage.
Planting in drifts or in groups of fives and sevens makes the most of these showy bulbs.
