    Easter March 2013

Easter Weekend and the clocks are going forward; I’ve been waiting for this moment since December! But with masses of seeds still to sow and a greenhouse that is cluttered with overwintering plants, Easter 2013 isn’t quite what I’d hoped for. I’m sure it’s not just me that is feeling fed up with the constant cold and disruptive weather.

    March 2013

A couple of sparkling days have given way to yet more snow so the promise of spring is still on hold. I’m moaning but we have got off fairly lightly in this part of the UK. Unlike the north and west that are really suffering. So what CAN we do in the garden? If you are under a heavy blanket of snow damage limitation is the only answer.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Glorious sunshine and bitter cold shouldn’t go together, especially in the south of the UK, but they have this week. It’s been that fine, dry, powdery snow that’s more common on the slopes of the Alps than wet cold Britain. And we certainly don’t expect it in the Channel Islands- where it’s caused the most disruption this week.

    March 2013

Warm sunshine, thick fog, hard frost and driving rain! Happy March! This sort of weather is to be expected in early March but it’s still a bit confusing for us ...and our plants. I’m longing to get seeds sown but just as I get ready to make a start the weather changes. My unheated greenhouse has registered temperatures up in the 30’s centigrade and down as far as -4c.Too much of a fluctuation to chance tender seedlings.
