The fruit, which arises from fragrant bell-like flowers,  is blueberry-like in growth and strawberry-like in flavour. Much-loved by Queen Victoria, the Chilean guava is a heritage plant, hardy to temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F) – ideal for UK growing.

Reaching 1.5-2m (5-6 ½ ft) in height Chilean guava shrubs grow well in containers, handy if you grow your crops in containers on the balcony.

When your grow three plants of the Chilean guava you have enough soft fruit to see you through at least two months of soft fruit. Think of the savings you make, avoiding the soft fruit aisle in the supermarkets because you have your own supply of soft fruit at home.

We recommend you plant in rich neutral to acidic soil if growing in containers and water well, preferably with rain water through the summer months especially in a drought. Lightly prune in late autumn to maintain an attractive shape to your Chilean guava shrubs.
