We give you 2 tubers each of 3 varieties (6 in total) which you can plant in 2 12in (30cm) diameter pots, 3 of each variety in 1 pot. Get your hands on several packs to grow in more pots for a more impactful display.

If you want to grow these dahlias in flower beds space the bulbs around 1ft (30cm) apart. For each square yard (square metre) of your flower bed plant 7 tubers so the stems have space to develop into handsome flowers as they grow, At planting  bury the tubers about 2in (5cm) deep.

Grow in pots with compost suitable for bulbs and tubers to ensure the plants have the best soil to grow and thrive in. If you grow them in flower beds mix some compost in with the existing soil to give your flowers the best soil to grow in.

Once your dahlias are in flower, get outdoors with scissors or snips to cut the flowers ready to decorate vases indoors.

How your bulbs arrive

Your 6 bulbs arrive to you as 2 knobbly tubers (these look like root ginger you’d buy for the supermarket) of each of the 3 varieties which, once planted in spring, produce leafy and flowering stems.

The bulbs arrive in a plastic bag with ventilation holes so that the bulbs get plenty of air. This ensures the bulbs are kept healthy and prevents the bulbs from rotting, which can affect the health of the plant when it’s growing.

Check your bulbs are in the mesh bag, and that the bulbs are firm, plump and free of mould or bruises.

Can’t plant straight away?

All you need to do is make sure the bulbs are kept in their ventilated bags and kept in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. Look to planting in their permanent position within 5-7 days.
