Dutch Iris rhizomes send up their flower spikes in mid summer, following on from the bearded irises their later flowering times extend the iris season. Dutch Irises grow from rhizomes; the plants have slender leaves and their strong stems support dainty iris flowers; the colours are subtle but striking and they’ll add a contrast of shape and colour in beds and borders. These summer flowering iris bulbs are also excellent for cutting.

Our collection includes one each of:

Iris ‘Black Beauty’ x24
This striking Dutch Iris has dark flowers with subtle markings.

Iris ‘Bronze Beauty’ x48
A sophisticated, dusky, bronze-yellow Dutch Iris.

Iris ‘Gipsy Beauty’ x48
One of the showiest Dutch irises with intricately marked petals.

Plant Dutch Iris rhizomes in September-October, Plant the bulbs around 2-3 times their depth, into free draining soil. Avoid planting bulbs in soil that gets waterlogged; on heavy soils add grit to the planting hole to prevent bulbs rotting.
Plant Dutch Iris rhizomes in containers of bulb compost or gritty free draining compost. Plant the bulbs around 2-3 times their depth.

How you receive your bulbs

You receive our spring-flowering bulbs in autumn in a plastic mesh. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack which is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.

Can’t plant straight away?

Keep your bulbs in a cool, light and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Look to planting your bulbs within a week of receiving them.
