Edelweiss Matterhorn - Perennial Plants

£9.99 each

  • Good in pots and containers
  • Will flower well in full sun
  • Hardy Perennial - sow indoors or on a seedbed (April-June); transplant later to flower for many seasons
  • Symbolic flower of the Alps
  • A natural bouquet in a pot
  • Use in rockeries

Cushion-forming perennial rockplant with felty, white flowers growing above a bed of tightly-packed green leaves. Not just one flower, but a full bouquet appears in early summer from one plant.

The variety Matterhorn mirrors the impressive nature of its mountain namesake, boasting more flowerheads than other edelweiss plants and showing remarkable robustness to UK winter conditions. Edelweiss complements small tulip species like Tulip Johann Strauss beautifully and blue balloon flowers Platycodon.

In one year a young plant reaches 20cm in height and spreads to 30cm. We recommend you plant one to two young plants in a 30cm pot for a dramatic display. Plant in free-draining soil like all-purpose compost.

If you want to grow edelweiss in a rockery plant around three per square metre area. Add some gravel to your soil if it is hard and shallow to improve your plants’ drainage ability and help your plants truly thrive.
