Elephant Garlic (Mammoth Cloves)
- Big bulbs that produce big cloves
- Sweeter and milder than smaller garlic
- Easy to grow
The Elephant Garlic cloves are not a true garlic and are more closely related to the leek. They produce big bulbs which in turn produce big cloves, making them a fun member of the allium family.
The flavour of the Elephant Garlic is milder and sweeter that the traditional garlic, which is good news for those who are not keen on a strong garlic flavour. Try basting it with olive oil and then roasting it in the oven where it will give you a creamy-textured vegetable or eating it raw, grated into a salad.
When planting your Elephant Garlic, make sure you pick a site that has well-drained soil and is in a sunny position making sure they are 15cm (6in) apart as they a little room to grow. They will also produce a beautiful purple flowering head which should be cut when it emerges to get the best bulb for eating.See Full Description +
