  • Practically spine-free

Add gooseberry Captivator to your fruit garden or vegetable plot and introduce a tidy compact shrub with few spines that reveal lots of flowers that turn into juicy red fruit that are sweet enough to eat straight from the plant, unlike some of its green-fruited cousins.

You can grow gooseberry Captivator in containers on your patio or directly in beds in your allotment. With few spines on the Captivator shrub they are easy to harvest from and you need not worry about clothes (or hands!) snagging on thorns.

Captivator is delicious eaten straight from the bush or reduced in the kitchen to make a jam, preserve or (if you are feeling adventurous) a fool.

How your plants arrive:

Your gooseberry plant arrives to you as a bare-root specimen with some dormant stems but more crucially a healthy set of roots which are eager to get into the ground and grow well over the cold months to support strong stems from the following spring.

If you can’t plant your gooseberry straight away we recommend that you keep your bare-root plant in a cool, and light position (but away from direct sun) and keep the soil well-watered but not waterlogged. Aim to plant within 10 days from delivery.
