Hyacinth Fondant - Hyacinth Bulbs
Garden hyacinths add colour and fragrance to a spring border or in containers. Hyacinth Fondant lives up to its name with sugar-pink flowers and sweet scent.
Hyacinths are perfect for creating a spring display on their own or team them with other spring bulbs in containers, beds and borders. Hyacinths can waft their fragrance a long distance, but it's not just us that appreciate it; bees and other pollinators are attracted to the sweet-smelling flowers too.
Plant hyacinth bulbs in autumn, around 2-3 times their depth, into free draining soil. For a natural effect scatter the bulbs and plant them where they fall. Plant garden hyacinths near to paths or doorways where their scent can be appreciated.
Avoid planting bulbs in soil that gets waterlogged; on heavy soils add grit to the planting hole to prevent bulbs rotting.
Let the leaves die down naturally and don't be tempted to cut them back early. The foliage needs to absorb energy back to the bulb to ensure next years flowers. Hyacinths are hardy bulbs and will come back every year but the flower spikes gradually become more lax and natural.
For the best shaped blooms plant new bulbs every autumn.
How you receive your bulbs
You receive our spring-flowering bulbs in autumn in a plastic mesh. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack which is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.
Can’t plant straight away?
Keep your bulbs in a cool, light and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Look to planting your bulbs within a week of receiving them.See Full Description +
