Hyacinth Mixed Pack - Indoor (prepared) Hyacinth Bulbs
This collection of mixed colour Hyacinth Bulbs will produce white, blue pink and yellow highly fragrant flowers.
They are perfect for growing in pots or flower bowls or in traditional hyacinth water vases.
These lovely spring flowers have had special cold treatment, forcing them to flower several months earlier than usual meaning that your can expect a wonderful display of colour and scented flowers in time for Christmas.
About Prepared Hyacinth Bulbs
Prepared Hyacinth bulbs, unlike regular garden bulbs, are grown specifically for indoor displays. They have gone through a period of chilling for several weeks to trick the bulb into thinking that winter has been and gone.
This will force the bulbs into early flowering and instead of blooming at the usual time of April, they will spring into flower months earlier, in December.
Plant the bulbs in containers of bulb fibre, plant with the tip of the bulbs showing above the compost; hyacinths need a cool spell and a period of dark to replicate winter dormancy followed by warm bright conditions to fool the bulbs into thinking its spring.
To get them to flower for Christmas leave them in a cool cupboard or garage for around 10 weeks, keep them watered and bring into a warm, light position as soon as flower buds emerge.
Aftercare indoors Turn the pots regularly to prevent the stems from leaning towards the light and, as the stems emerge, give them some support to prevent them flopping. You can do this with canes and string but the coloured stems of cornus or willow tied with natural raffia or narrow ribbon, look particularly attractive.
Once the Hyacinths have finished flowering they can be planted out into your garden for displays in spring.
Hyacinths can cause irritation so please wear gloves when planting.
