Japanese Wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius) x1
Sweet dark red berries abound from September. Best trained against a wall or a fence the fruit is best eaten straight off the plant but also can be used in cooking and preserves. This variety has great ornamental aspects with deep red stems that stand out in winter.
Plant near to a vertical – such as a wall or fence so that you can train stems easily and prune out wayward stems. This plant fruits in abundance on account of its vigorous growth – be sure to keep it well-trained so it doesn’t grow out of its allotted space.
Treat like a summer-fruiting raspberry, pruning out the fruited canes in late autumn. This should leave the attractive first-year leafy stems to do their ornamental show in winter and produce fruit the following year.
When you receive your 1 litre pot plant water well before planting. You can plant at any time of the year- However avoid mid-summer when young plants can suffer from heat stress at planting or mid-to-late winter if the soil is frozen.
Japanese wineberry has so many ornamental and practical uses. Lots of fruit in autumn followed by gorgeous texture and red stems in winter that look beautiful when rimed in frost.See Full Description +
