Kerria Japonica Pleniflora- 3Ltr Shrub
Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’ is one shrub you can’t be without. It’s loved for its foliage, stems and flowers, this Kerria is a real showstopper and as it’s name suggests, produces a plentiful bounty of wonderful, bright yellow, double flowers. These flowers are borne from April to May among lushgreen leaves which, once autumn arrive, make way for the attractive fresh coloured stems. Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’ is however a fairly vigorous plant, sending up suckers and eventually creating a thicket, which can be pruned to restrict its size. Awarded the RHS AGM.
Dig a hole large and deep enough to take the plant’s root ball.
Gently tap the plant out of its pot without disturbing the soil around the roots.
Position the plant at the bottom of the hole so the plant’s crown is level with the surface and sits at the same depth as it was in the pot; make sure the roots are in direct contact with the soil.
Backfill with the excavated soil and firm in gently. Water to settle the soil around the roots.
Shrubs are easy-care plants getting better every year with the minimum of fuss.
Watering: Water regularly in the first few weeks after planting and then make sure the plants are kept moist in dry spells.
Feeding: Give shrubs a boost with a handful of granular feed hoed into the soil in spring.
Pruning: Prune Kerria japonica after flowering in spring cutting stems back to a vigorous sideshoot to encourage next year’s flowers.
Kerria Japonica is a vigorous shrub that spreads by suckers; on established shrubs prune out congested stems to the base to control its height and spread. Kerria will take hard pruning in spring.
