One of the most reliable forms of this flower-show worthy variety, Meconopsis Alba is a much sought after and rare hardy perennial poppy that showcases white blooms of 10cm (4in) in diameter and yellow flower parts in the centre. Perfect for shady sites with moist but not waterlogged soils.

This delightful perennial flower comes back year after year attracting pollinating bees too – this is great news as they are sure to stick around pollinating nearby fruiting vegetables for optimum harvests.

We would suggest you plant three young plants to a container with a 12in (30cm) diameter for creating maximum colour and impact, or at the centre of a flowerbed. Originating in the Himalayas, it copes well in the British climate. A great addition to flower borders in gardens up and down the country.

Pots dotted around the patio will really impress visitors to your garden – and for such little effort.

Grow in pots with compost suitable for bedding to ensure the plants have the best soil to grow and thrive in. If you grow them in flower beds mix some compost in with the existing soil to give your flowers the best soil to grow in.

If you grow in flowerbeds space plants around 20cm (8in) apart. An area of one square metre (square yard) will fit around nine plants.
