Healthy and as expected with good instructions.
I was really disappointed with the size of the greengage tree I purchased. It is just a wand with no branches at all and just leaf buds going up the stem. I have complained and have been told that this is what maiden trees are like. Since the picture shows a small tree with branches I'm not at all happy. My complaint is in the process of being resolved so things may look up. I spoke to a very pleasant man in customer service who is following it through with the nursery who supply the trees. My advice would be not to buy a young tree from them as it is ridiculous to call this a tree when it is not much more than a cutting.
It's been planted in the soil just have to wait and see if it bears fruit next year.
Old Fashioned Greengage - Tree
- Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit
- Colour-changing fruit as they ripen
- Self-fertile for guaranteed harvests
Carry on the British tradition of growing delicious greengages praised for their sweetness and thirst-quenching juiciness.
Even in isolation your greengage tree is sure to produce fruit thanks to its self-fertile nature. This means there need be no other greengage tree in the immediate area to give you fruit on your tree.
As the plum-like gages develop they subtly turn from a plain green colour to a more attractive yellow. When yellow, you know it's time to harvest.
Delicious enjoyed straight from the tree or brought in the kitchen to make crumbles and preserves. Greengages are as versatile as they are traditional and quintessentially British.
