  • Attractive buds burst into large blooms

This beautiful perennial is great for borders in the garden. The attractive leaves come up first in early spring and then make way for strong flowering stems with large spherical buds that burst into rose-like flowers.

Peony Rubra Plena comes back every year for decades and can be moved from one garden to the next to carry on its legacy from one generation to the next. Popular and traditional peony work in many planting schemes- plant them in herbaceous borders in the centre or plant one in a container filled with rich compost to establish well.

Unwins flower buyer Nikki adores peony Rubra Plena, planted in her garden and taking pride and place in one of her flower beds.

“My love of peonies stems from my upbringing; they are a favourite of my dad’s and that love has been passed onto me. You can grow peonies in flowerbeds and they just get better and better every year. Fragrant and flamboyant my peonies do me proud.”

(Nikki, Unwins Flower Buyer)

Useful tip:

Position plant supports over the emerging leaves in early spring. This prevents the rich, large flowers from flopping over later in the season. Add a mulch of rich compost early spring or in autumn to keep the soil moisture in.
