Petunias are invaluable for containers, baskets and bedding displays and growing them from seed is a great way to experiment with different colours and habits, from large flowered petunias to dainty trailing varieties.
To give Petunia seeds time to germinate and to make sturdy plants sow early in the season in warmth, a temperature of around 21C/70F is ideal. A sprinkling of vermiculite will help to anchor the seed while still letting in light.
Keep compost moist but not wet. Once seeds have germinated prick out and grow on ready to transplant outside once all risk of frost has passed.
