Grow this Spencer variety displayed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 1947 for Her Majesty The Queen. Bring a bit of the world-famous show to your own garden and impress the neighbours.

Princess Elizabeth is a long-standing favourite and is a great garden performer. Petals are large and fluttery salmon reddish-pink on a gorgeous creamy background, making them a romantic addition to the garden.

They can be trained to climb, allowed to trail, or even to cascade down a rock wall.

Her Majesty the Queen was delighted to hear her namesake sweet pea has been grown continuously for more than 60 years. It is the most beautiful colour, fragrant and still grown in gardens all around the world.

This beautiful variety reveals lots of pink flowers throughout summer which are easy to cut to put in vases to decorate the windowsills around your house.

Sowing seeds

Place canes or a trellis above where you want to sow your sweet peas. Your seed pack will tell you how far apart to sow seeds. Position two seeds at each station and pick out the weakest seedling when the two start to grow, leaving the strongest seed to grow on.

If you want your sweet pea seeds to germinate quickly you can put down a horticultural fleece over the soil – this helps retain the heat in the soil, and doubles up as protection from hungry seed-eating mice.
