Tips & Advice:
Sowing Indoors
Sow thinly in small pots of pre-watered seed compost. Place in a propagator at 15-20°C, or cover with cling film and keep in a warm place. Once seedlings appear, grow on in a cool (frost-free) bright spot.
Growing On
When large enough to handle, pot on individually into 8cm pots and grow on at a minimum temperature of 15°C. Keep moist at all times.
Hardening Off/Planting Out
Gradually harden off before planting out in May or June, 30cm apart with 35cm between rows.
Aftercare
Keep the ground weed-free and do not allow to dry out- it should remain damp. Using a mulch will help to keep the moisture in. Remove outer leaves, as they fall level, and any side shoots.
Advice
Harvest as needed from mid-autumn until late winter. The flavour will develop over time. Lift carefully with the aid of a fork; a covering of straw will help prevent freezing and make lifting easier.
