Tips & Advice:
Sowing Indoors
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in the warmth, 15-20°C and keep moist. Higher temperatures may inhibit germination.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart into trays of potting compost.
Hardening Off/Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out. Allow 15cm between plants.
Advice
Seed can also be sown outdoors when the soil is warm. Sow thinly and lightly cover with a little soil. Keep soil moist until seedlings emerge. Thin to 15-20cm apart and transfer thinnings to other parts of your garden. Although a perennial, Violas are more often grown as annuals. Flowering time depends on when seeds are sown.
