Get hold of rhubarb Fulton's Strawberry Surprise, for edible stems on strong, vigorous plants which produce attractive red stems with has a well-balanced flavour on stewing in the kitchen.
So good the RHS Garden Wisley trials voted it as having the best flavoured stems in the rhubarb world. This variety grows happily in a raised bed, large 40cm (16in) containers with rich soil or in borders.
Rhubarbs are best planted as 'crowns- plant bases with a bit of root and stems to support them. These are sections of mature roots that once planted are primed to develop over the winter underground and come into growth the following spring.
We recommend you choose a sunny, open site and incorporate a generous layer of bulky compost into the soil. Leave the crop to grow and develop in the first year without harvesting.See Full Description +
