Why not grow this fantastic perennial that produces firework-like blooms in any area of your garden in rich, quality soil. Commonly named Indian pink, the flowers look similar to jester hats with their red and yellow petals.

They appear similar in appearance to fuchsia flowers, will happily grow in the full sun where it can look great when grown as companion with Red and Green grasses like imperata ‘Red Baron’ or red phormiums. This variety is equally happy when grown in part sun beneath your favourite small ornamental trees and larger shrubs, these will supplement the evergreen red leaves of barberries.

Grow 3 of these perennials per square metre (10 square feet) for an impactful display.

Pluck the dead flowers and stems and give the roots a good feed with a rich fertiliser in early Autumn. The year after Spigelia will return with more flowering stems than ever before.
