If you are new to growing cordon tomatoes we recommend Shirley for harvests of snooker ball -sized tomatoes over a long period over the summer. Every plant gives off a delicious tomato scent to your greenhouse or sunny patio.

Recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society for excellent home-growing this is a perfect cordon variety to try yourself. Every plant grows to around 2m (6 1/2 ft) and is laden with fruiting stems. Pinch out the little leaves that appear in the angles of the main stem and side-branches. This is called pinching-out and improves your harvests.

In the kitchen many growers like to reduce Shirley tomatoes into tasty sauces, as the flavours intensify on cooking.
