Ornamental member of the garlic family, society garlic Silver Lace (Tulbaghia violacea) is ideal for planting in pots and containers for charming flowerheads lasting through the summer and as far into autumn as November.

The tidy evergreen strappy leaves with white contrasting white veins look perfect when grown with colour-rich bedding. Perfect for the front of flowerbeds too or rock gardens that enjoy naturally free-draining soil.

With an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society this is a lovely perennial (half-hardy in exposed areas). We recommend you bring under cover over winter.

The scent of the leaves deters unwanted visitors to the garden too like rodents.

Society garlic is great in the kitchen as well as the garden: you can harvest the edible leaves and flowers; fantastic for chopping and adding to salads to give a peppery and garlic-like kick. Society garlic also has the bonus of not causing the anti-social odours associated with regular garlic.
